Habakkuk

In Habakkuk, the prophet is having a conversation with God and God is replying. He is frustrated by the injustice he sees around him and, like all of us, wonders why God allows it.

I don’t think there is any one answer to this question. For Habakkuk, the Assyrians were the evil ones but God said He would bring up the Babylonians to wipe them out.

But the idea of how God works is presented here. God ultimately will do something we never expected and even can’t fully comprehend. Where we see only one way or even two, God is not limited to those.

I think, one day we’ll understand why this short period (when compared to eternity) of injustice was necessary. As Paul says in 1 Corinthians 13:12, now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

Until then, we live in faith that God knows more than we do and He is ultimately working for our good.
